Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

I have to say, I'm quite the sheep when it comes to makeup. Countless praises of a product time after time makes me want it. Seeing how popular it is, I just want a taste of it, and see how great it is. So here is the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent. After dabbling with a cheap Ulta3 Loose Powder (which actually isn't extraordinarily cheap considering it retails for $7.95 but I managed to nab for $3) which wasn't all too bad except that the shade I had gotten was too dark, I wanted a translucent pressed powder which would be easier to apply. With a 25% off sale on ASOS a while back, I managed to purchase the famous Stay Matte Pressed Powder for a mere $5.

L-R: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent, Real Techniques Powder Brush

Packaging is simple, cheap plastic with a lid that doesn't stay on too well- this is definitely not travel friendly unless you wrap a rubber band around it to secure it. However I'm not too fussed as I don't travel with pressed powder as I don't tend to become oily throughout the day. I probably just purchased this product for curiosity's sake, however I liked the idea of setting face makeup and mattifying around the upper nose area where my glasses sit, as they tend to slide down.

Even though touted as a translucent powder, the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder appears to have a hint of colour- which will show up if you go super heavy with application (and I mean very heavy!). However with a normal swipe you pick up the perfect amount of product which can be applied very easily and is translucent. This product claims to provide up to 5 hours of natural shine control and to minimise the appearance of pores. This pressed powder definitely mattifies but since I don't have visible pores, I can't comment on the latter.

I love using the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder with my Real Techniques Powder Brush which applies the pressed powder like a charm, the softness of the brush is just divine! I'll definitely recommend Real Techniques for anyone who wants to purchase any makeup brushes- their quality is impeccable and are so soft.

For anyone wanting to try a translucent powder, definitely give the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder a go, seeing as it it very affordable (retailing for $12.95 but is constantly on sale). They do come in a variety of shades but I'd recommend the translucent one for those who are too lazy to select their shade!

Have you tried the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder? What do you think of it?

  3. I have heard a lot of good things about this powder.. I like Rimmel in general, their lipsticks and eyeliners are really good.. I used to love their 25hr foundation but didn't really like their wake me up foundation though a lot of ppl love it. But i'd love to try this powder :D

    1. Their lipsticks are great especially for their price and their Scandaleyes range is great :) I haven't used any other foundation from them except the Wake Me Up one- which I love because it suits my dry/normal skin :)

    1. Haha that's exactly like me! The powder is great for what you pay for- I guess what everyone looks for is if a product is worth its price, and this one definitely is :)

  9. I love this powder! My only gripe is the packaging - I have to put a hair band around it to keep the lid on!

    1. Oh I definitely agree that one gripe is the packaging- it really could do a little better seeing as there are a few pressed powders around the same price range as the Rimmel yet have much sturdier packaging!

  12. Yes! I Love the Stay Matte Powder! I actually find the price quite expensive but by the time I run out of this powder it's always on sale anyways.

    1. Haha I wouldn't have thought it was expensive, especially seeing as it's always on sale too :) It's good because it'll take ages for it to run out!

  14. $5 is an awesome price to get this for!
I feel like everybody uses this powder! I've wanted to try it for a while but I have plenty of product left in the powder I'm using now so I might wait until that runs low before I get this. Thanks for reviewing!

    1. It is quite a bargain, considering how long it'll last and how well it performs :) Shame about the cheap flimsy packaging though :(

    1. ASOS has a couple of beauty brands stocked, which is awesome because they already sell them cheaper than RRP and they have free shipping too! :)

  16. I love this powder so much. I haven't found any problems with the lid becoming loose but it's mainly been sitting in my dormant makeup bag so it hasn't been moving too much. Thank god too, because it randomly crumbled on me one day when the pan got bigger. I only get slightly oily during the summer and this kept my makeup in place all day. I'm glad that you love it to! xx

    1. Fair enough! Yeah travelling around with it wouldn't be a good idea but leaving it dormant won't be any problem :) It really does keep makeup in place all day which is great!

  17. i learned a trip from michelle phan's website regarding travelling with powder cosmetics! you can insert a cotton into the packaging/compact and the cotton can serve as your "bubblewrap". ;)

  19. I've wanted to try this, but I do always keep my powder in my bag and the crappy packaging has made me wary! I use the Maybelline Dream Matte powder which is like the rival of this powder, and I'm happy with it. But they seem to be quite on par with each other as far as performance goes!

    1. I've read a few things about the Maybelline Dream Matte powder and it does seem like a rival! I must agree that its packaging is better than the Rimmel though, but I haven't tried out the powder before. Maybe one day I'll give it a go :)

  20. I'm currently using this powder and I really like it. I used translucent because none of the other shades are light enough for me. That's one of the draw backs that I'm starting to notice with Rimmel- they don't have a wide enough color range.

    1. I agree- Rimmel has quite a small range of shades which can only suit a few people! Lucky they have a translucent powder though :)

  21. I think Tanya Burr is the one person that swears by this and she definitely is convincing! I was wanting to pick this up when Chemist Warehouse had their 50% off sale a while ago (not the one they currently are having) but Translucent was sold out! They only had the coloured ones which didn't entice me. I normally skip powder anyway, but I might check this out next time I come across it at a good price. I loooovveee that powder brush though, Real Techniques make amazing brushes for such an affordable price :)

    1. Aw no translucent is always sold out at Priceline too! I wasn't enticed by the coloured powders though either. And yesss, Real Techniques make such beautiful yet affordable brushes, they are a dream to use :)

  22. Great review, I'm going to keep this in mind for when I next buy a pressed powder!

I know this was a review on the powder but I'm now very tempted to get that RT brush..I've been looking for a powder brush forever, and I tend to like big, fluffy ones! Wasn't too impressed with the Core Collection though.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The brushes I was impressed with in the Core Collection were the buffing and contouring brush- the foundation one was disappointing and the lip/concealer brush I don't use very often. But this powder brush is extremely soft and fluffy, definitely worth it!

  23. I really like this powder, it's really worth the hype. It's so cheap as well <3 xx

  34. Haha I'm quite the makeup sheep too :3 And oh my, Rimmel is so expensive in Austrailia! I usually check out drugstore products for eye and lip products but this pressed powder actually looks really good. I'd probably get the translucent one out of sheer laziness :p Thanks for the review and for entering my giveaway! New follower here, love all the drug store reviews <3
